Convent of Santa Clara

Convento de Santa Clara's monumental bulk rises up above the Ave. Behind the 18C façade the convent buildings date from the 14C. The church is of the fortress type and was founded in 1318. It has retained its Gothic style and inside are the Renaissance tombs of the founders, Dom Afonso Sanches and Dona Teresa Martins, and their children.
