Interesting
Situated on a hill located on the right bank of the Tagus, Santarém dominates the vast plain of Ribatejo, of which it is the administrative centre. Its strategic position has made it the focus of several battles since the early Muslim era. Recaptured by the Moors in 1147, it later became home to several kings who appreciated its proximity to Lisbon. This town is well known for its bull runs.
