Valença do Minho The Essential
Interesting
Valença is located on a hill dominating the left bank of the Minho, opposite the Galician town of Tui, located on the main road which links Santiago de Compostela to Porto. The old district of Valença is a very unusual twinned area, comprising two fortified Vauban style towns, reached by just one bridge which crosses a wide ditch and followed by a long arched passage. There is also a metal bridge, built by Gustave Eiffel in 1884 which the locals are very proud of.
