Oradea (Grosswardein/Nagyvárad) The Essential
Interesting
The capital of Crisana is near the Hungarian border on a verdant plain irrigated by the three Cris rivers. After a fire in 1836, Oradea was rebuilt in a combination of Secessionist and historicist styles. On Union Square, note the church of the moon and the black eagle palace (1909), a fine example of Art Nouveau; Secessionist architecture on King Ferdinand Square and Republic Street, where the buildings' façades make for a fine décor. Continue to the lovely green Sándor Petofi park.
