Bélmez The Essential
Located in the furthest reaches of the province of Córdoba, near Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo, Bélmez extends across the foot of a rocky hillside, dominated by a castle of Moorish origin which was rebuilt after the Reconquest. As well as being a popular holiday resort, thanks to the nearby Sierra Bedoya reservoir, Bélmez also has an interesting mining tradition. This was its main source of income from the 18C onwards, and continues today through the School of Mining Engineering established here.
