Corredera Square

This vast rectangular square brings to mind the plazas mayores (main squares) of Castile. For centuries it was an important place for people to meet up and the setting for autodafés, fairs, executions, markets and even bullfights in the 19C: the bulls were enclosed in Calleja del Toril. Of an exemplary unity, the three-storey brick buildings around it, orange, beige or green, rest on arcades of the same colours. It is a pedestrian area and as soon as the weather allows it, it is covered with tables and turned into a huge open-air café.
