Lebrija The Essential
Perched on a small promontory, Lebrija rises along the edge of the marshlands of the Guadalquivir estuary. Founded by Bacchus, the town prospered for a long time under Moorish rule, then after the 1264 Reconquest by Alfonso X, and up to the 18C, thanks to its abundant agricultural resources. The birthplace of Elio Antonio de Nebrija (1442-1522), the first grammarian of Spanish, Lebrija is fast developing into a modern industrial town.
