Kurutziaga Cross

Interesting
Preserved in Durango's Kurutzesantu Museum, this unusual cross is carved, like a Breton Calvary, on both sides (Paradise, Adam and Eve, the 12 Apostles). Erected as an act of atonement after heresy was committed in 1442, when Franciscan friar Alonso de Mella's unorthodox preaching drew a considerable number of followers. Around 100 of them were condemned for witchcraft and burnt in 1444 on the site where the cross now stands.
