Santillana del Mar The Essential
Recommended
Contrary to its name, Santillana del Mar is not by the sea, but a few kilometres inland. It is a museum-village, with its medieval heritage intact. Its old cobble streets are lined with casonas, noble mansions with emblazoned façades and balconies decorated with flowers. The numerous hotels and restaurants compete in the charm stakes, in a bid to draw in the waves of tourists who flock here in summer; many places offer a shady terrace.
