Covarrubias The Essential
Situated on the banks of the Arlanza, Covarrubias has retained a part of its ramparts defended by the Doña Urraca tower. A Renaissance palace provides access to its picturesque district of restored half-timbered houses. Covarrubias is the resting place of one of the great personalities of Castilian history, Ferdinand González, who in the 10C created the vast county of Castile and declared its independence, resulting in the leading role played by the province in the struggle against the Muslims.
