Cuenca The Essential
Recommended
Cuenca lies in a grandiose setting at the heart of the Serranía de Cuenca, linking the Castilian Meseta with the Levante region. In this limestone range, erosion has fashioned a jagged relief with occasional fantastic shapes. The old town is perched on a rocky shelf dissected by the narrow Júcar and Huécar passes, and resembles a balcony suspended between two chasms. Lack of space explains the narrowness and winding plan of its streets, as well as the height of its houses.
