Palace del Lloctinent

This palace (1549-57) was the residence of the king's "lieutenants", or viceroys of Catalonia, as they were known after the unification of Spain. Its three facades are eminently austere. The late Gothic style dominates Renaissance elements, which is characteristic of 16C architecture. The main entrance, Carrer dels Comtes, leads to a lovely arcaded patio on the ground floor. Upstairs are a Tuscan gallery and elegant staircase.
