Monasterio de Sant Joan de les Abadesses

Recommended
This Benedictine monastery was founded in the 9C. The current church, consecrated in 1150, is the work of a congregation of Augustinian monks. In the central apse of the church, admire an extraordinary Romanesque group representing the Descent from the Cross (1251). Note also the 14C Gothic altarpiece of Santa María la Blanca. The 15C cloisters, in Catalan Gothic style, lead to a museum with an impressive collection of silverware, sculptures and embroidery.
