Balaguer The Essential
Capital of the "comarca" of Noguera, Balaguer is situated on the right bank of the Segre. This dynamic and enterprising town retains some sections of its Moorish walls and a few medieval streets. It was the birthplace of Gaspar de Portolà, an 18C soldier and explorer. In June, the Festa del Transsegre, a competition for home-made rafts, is held on the river.
