Monasterio de Santes Creus

Highly recommended
Nestled in a deep, lush valley, the magnificent Cistercian complex of Santes Creus (Holy Cross) extends along the left bank of the Gaià river. Since its foundation around 1150, the monastery has been a major political and cultural centre, as witnessed by its superb library. Highlights of the visit, full of surprises, include the Gothic cloister, one of the jewels of the monastery. The old monastic outhouses, converted and transformed into accommodation are today a small village of the same name.
