Badajoz
Badajoz The Essential
As a frontier town, Badajoz remained entrenched behind its Moorish fortress and medieval ramparts and confined to its narrow, austere streets for centuries. Today it is the capital of the largest province in Spain and is a dynamic regional centre. Although often besieged and pillaged, it retains some traces of its past, including the majestic 16C Palmas gate overlooking the town to the north.
