Morella boasts a magnificent setting, with more than 2km of 14C ramparts punctuated with towers surrounding the town, which forms tiers on a hill at an altitude of 1 004m. The walls of what used to be the medieval castle stand on a rocky platform. This superb perched town, on which time seems to have no incidence, nestles in the heart of the Maestrazgo, an arid and mountainous region that was the fief of the Knights of the Order of Montesa.
