The Rows

Recommended
Unique in Britain, these shopping arcades are first mentioned in Chester's archives in 1331. Originally, shops were housed on the ground floor and the upper storeys were given over to accommodation. With their characteristic black and white timbered architecture, they preserve Chester's medieval look and unity. The Grosvenor Shopping Centre, the most important arcade in the Rows, is particularly worth visiting.
