St Ives The Essential
This charming fishing port, with winding alleys and houses built on its hillside, has been a favourite destination for artists since 1880, when Whistler and Sickert came here in the footsteps of Turner. The most attractive part of the village is called The Island, which occupies a small headland where fishermen's houses huddle together, lining winding and stepped alleys. In summer, most of the action takes place on the town's wharf with its restaurants and café terraces.
