Manchester The Essential
Interesting
Manchester grew up out on the site of an old Roman settlement, but its good fortunes began in the 18C with the rise of the cotton industry, followed by the city's development as a financial centre; a prosperous heritage reflected in its fine buildings Following an IRA bomb attack in 1996 a huge regeneration programme gave the city a new face. Areas like Trafford and Salford have some audacious new buildings; Manchester is fulfilling its potential.
