Boston was England's second largest port in the 13C and a centre of Puritanism in the 17C. The Pilgrim Fathers (pilgrims who founded the same-named town in the American colony) were imprisoned here. Boston has elegant Georgian houses and warehouses lining the banks of the River Witham. It is a quiet town which comes alive for its weekly auction and market. Today, Boston's resources stem from its light industry, agriculture and commercial port.
