Cathedral

Interesting
Built above the Saxon crypt of St Wilfrid's church (672), the cathedral, started in 1154, offers visitors the spectacle of its impressive Early English Gothic main façade - "the finest in England" according to Pevsner. The treasury displays a collection of silverware as well as the "Ripon jewel", a Saxon brooch embellished with amber and garnets, which was found nearby in 1976.
