Whitby The Essential
Interesting
At the mouth of the River Esk, Whitby was once a ship-building and whaling centre, and is now a fishing port and seaside resort. The town is divided into a rather modern west side, and an east side steeped in history and overlooked by its ruined abbey. Vampire enthusiasts may be interested to know that the first few chapters of Dracula by Bram Stoker are set in Whitby.
