Ilminster Cathedral

The most striking feature of St Mary's is the crossing tower (27m) copied from the one in Wells Cathedral. The 15C Perpendicular Gothic building originally only had a central nave; side aisles were added in the 16C and the galleries above the nave and lower sides were built in 1824-1825. Note the fan vaulting in the crossing, as well as Wadham Chapel (left arm of the transept) built in 1452 to house the tombs of Sir William Wadham and Nicholas Wadham, founder of Wadham College in Oxford.
