Inveraray The Essential
The whitewashed town lies on the shores of Loch Fyne and only a short distance from its castle. The original seat of Clan Campbell (15C) and its village were moved in the 18C. Further to a new settlement plan, the village was rebuilt at a distance, on the instructions of the 3rd Duke of Argyll. The waterfront giving onto the loch is superb; at the pier is moored a three-masted schooner which only adds to the scenic beauty of the place.
