Dirleton The Essential

This charming village groups 17C and 18C houses and cottages, with their well-kept gardens, round two green squares. The church, built in 1612 but with a modern interior, is flanked by a courthouse and traditional school buildings, but Dirleton is primarily famous for its 13C castle, which already existed before the village and church were built (to replace the village of Gullane, which disappeared under the sand).
