Newtown Saint Boswells
Cockburnspath The Essential
The charming village of "Copath ", set just off the A1 trunk road, is the birthplace of John Broadwood (1732-1812), cabinetmaker and co-founder of the famous piano manufacturing firm. In the 1880s, the village became the centre of a painters' colony: Glasgow School artists came here, notably James Guthrie, EA Walton and Joseph Crawhall. The 341km-long Southern Upland Way links this village to Portpatrick on the coast.
