Criccieth The Essential
This Victorian seaside resort boasts a ruined medieval castle. The surrounding Lleyn Peninsula is a remote region and a bastion of Welsh culture. Must-sees include the lovely gardens of Plas-yn-Rhiw, the strangely shaped trio of hills named Tre'r Ceiri, the sandy beaches, the rugged heights of Mynydd Mawr and the pilgrims' island of Bardsey. In the village of Llanystumdwy is the Lloyd George Museum, occupying the boyhood home of the man who was Prime Minister from 1916 to 1922.
