On a wooded peninsula with fine views over the surrounding area with the mountains of Snowdonia as a backdrop, this extraordinary village was the creation of the fertile imagination of architect and conservationist Sir Clough Williams-Ellis (1893-1978). A bizarre mix of fantasy and theatrical effects, it was built to celebrate life as a festival, and architecture as fun. Visitors can stroll around the many cottages, Battery Square, the area of the Citadel and its Campanile, and the green Piazza.
