Armagh The Essential
The religious capital of Ireland, Armagh sits in a fertile landscape dotted with orchards. Rich in fine Georgian buildings, Armagh is dominated by its two cathedrals, the respective sees of the Irish Anglican and Catholic archbishops. The county town since time immemorial, Armagh was proclaimed a city by royal decree in July 1994 in recognition of its contribution to the country's spiritual life, but remains at heart a very pleasant small town.
