Dalnavert

Home of the only son of Sir John A. Macdonald, Canada's first prime minister. At the time of its construction, Dalnavert was equipped with numerous luxuries and state-of-the-art amenities, such as walk-in closets, electric lighting, indoor plumbing and central hot-water heating. Beautifully restored today, it reflects the life of this philanthropic politician (member of Parliament from 1891 to 1893, and premier of Manitoba from 1899 to 1900), who reserved part of his basement as a lodging for the homeless.
