Annapolis Royal The Essential
Recommended
The "Queen's City", one of Canada's oldest settlements, is well located on a pleasant site overlooking the estuary of the Annapolis River, which is swamped by the powerful tides from the Bay of Fundy and which the Acadians managed to control with a dike and locks. Annapolis Royal can claim a rich, turbulent past and was the scene of French-English battles and interior Acadian struggles. The town's full-time population is small, but annually it attracts hosts of visitors to its historic sites and elegant inns.
