Halifax The Essential
Recommended
On the east coast of the Nova Scotian headland, the province's capital overlooks one of the finest harbours in the world. The deep outer inlet of the Atlantic Ocean narrows into a protected inner harbour called the Bedford Basin. The headland, in the shape of a foot on which the city is built, is dominated by a hill on which a star-shaped citadel stands. The strait is lined in docks and quaysides.
