The provincial capital, Charlottetown is a sheltered port in a bay of the Strait of Northumberland. Founded in 1768, this peaceful town rich in graceful Victorian houses, was named after Queen Charlotte, wife of King George III of England. It is located in the heart of a rich agricultural region, whose production it exports thanks to its port. It is also the main trading and shopping centre of the island.
