Garden of the Gods

Recommended
Fabulous red-rock formations within this 1,400-acre city park, a geological showcase, soar up to 300ft. Paved roads offer easy access to the best-known formations-Balanced Rock, Cathedral Spires, Kissing Camels, Three Graces and Tower of Babel-rising dramatically from a landscape of greenery. Most are better seen via foot, bicycle or horseback on trails of .5mi to 3mi in length.Guided walks and nature programs begin on the east side of the park at a new visitor center (1805 N. 30th St.), which offers a natural-history display and orientational 12min multimedia show. Just south at the Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site, costumed docents portray life on an 1860s homestead, an 1880s ranch and an early-20C estate. The landmark 1901 Garden of the Gods Trading Post, a sprawling Pueblo-style structure, is on the south side of the park.
