Block 2200

This portion of Massachusetts Avenue, lined with adjoining houses, provides a pleasant entry to Sheridan Circle. At no 2200 is a Beaux-Arts residence that was built in 1909 for Alexander Stewart, a wood magnate and representative of Wisconsin in Congress; it now houses Luxembourg's Embassy. At no 2230, a manor built in 1907 incorporates all the characteristic features of the so-called Châteauesque, an eclectic style inspired by the French Renaissance that was in vogue in the early 20C.
