Collins Park

The area around Collins Park is the site of the first lots sold by John Collins to finance his bridge project in 1912. Modernist hotels replaced older buildings in the 1930s. The futuristic tower fin on the restored Plymouth, designed by Anton Skislewicz in 1940, characterizes designs inspired by the space-age pylon featured at the 1939 World's Fair. The lobby mural by Ramon Chatov shows scantily clothed figures cavorting on the beach. A grassy plaza and rounded glass-block entrance front the Collins Park Hotel. Designed in 1939 by Henry Hohauser, this marvel combines Art Deco zigzag motifs with the curving walls and portholes characteristic of the Moderne style.
