Frank W. Thomas House

Interesting
Considered the first true Prairie-style house by Wright, this 1901 commission abandons all elements and ornaments of Victorian design. The entrance arch below the main floor leads not to a door but to a staircase proceeding to the hidden entry. Bands of art-glass windows are squeezed and sheltered between flattened roofs and high stucco walls. Immediately south, Victorian row houses from 1892 illustrate the architectural shift Wright led at the turn of the century.
