Newburyport The Essential
This small city at the mouth of the Merrimack River was the home of a large fleet of merchant vessels in the 18C and 19C. The dignified Federal mansions built on High Street by sea captains, and the handsomely restored Market Square area, evoke Newburyport's heyday as a bustling shipbuilding port and trading center. Today the lively waterfront is the setting for outdoor concerts, and the launching point for whale watching trips and sightseeing cruises.
