The Cloisters

Highly recommended
Built on a hilltop in a park overlooking the Hudson, the Cloisters (part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art) re-creates a fortified monastery by incorporating four reconstructed medieval cloisters. Housed within is an unrivaled collection of medieval art including sculptures, tapestries and other objects spanning centuries. Guided or self-guided audio tours are the best way to experience the collection.
