Empire State Building

Highly recommended
Strength and grace combine to make the Empire State Building the most famous skyscraper in the world and the quintessential New York landmark. Topping out at 1,454 feet, it is the city's tallest building, and one of the few you can actually experience. Views from the 86th-floor observatory (try to go early in the day to avoid long lines) extend 80 miles on a clear day, all the way to Massachusetts.
