Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET)

Highly recommended
The Met is the largest museum in the Western hemisphere, and the pride of New York. The collection embraces two million objects tracing 5,000 years of human history, divided inito nineteen curatorial departments; and offers a veritable encyclopedia of the visual arts. The signature Beaux-Arts facade, designed by Richard Morris Hunt, was completed in 1902. The museum's holdings in Egyptian art, European paintings, sculpture and decorative arts, Greek and Roman art and American art are unequalled. It's best to focus your efforts on one collection or department per day; AudioGuide tours (available at the information desk) can help save time and enhance your visit.
