Space Center Houston
Official visitor center of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), this $70 million facility adjacent to the Johnson Space Center-the mission control, training and research facility for the US space program-offers live shows, presentations and interactive exhibits. Guided tram tours take visitors for a behind-the-scenes look at the Johnson Space Center to view Mission Control and astronaut training facilities. Live satellite links provide up-to-date information on current space flights. Exhibits include spacecraft from early Mercury, Gemini and Apollo missions. Visitors may try on space helmets, touch moon rocks, use a simulator to land a shuttle or take a space walk. Texas' largest IMAX theater showcases large-format films.
