Christ Church

Interesting
Encircled by a high wall, the church grounds provide a peaceful haven where trees shade 18C grave markers. Both George Washington and Robert E. Lee worshiped in the simple brick and stone structure, with its pepperpot steeple. By tradition, 20C presidents have come here to worship in Washington's pew on the Sunday nearest February 22, his birthday. Silver plaques mark the pews of Washington (no. 60) and Lee (no. 46).
