Virginia Historical Society

This imposing complex has an extensive historical collection related to the different cultures and peoples who feature in the history of Virginia. The permanent exhibition "Story of Virginia: An American Experience" chronicles the state's history up to the 20C. In the Cheek Gallery, walls are lined with the Memorial Military Murals (referred to as The Four Seasons of the Confederacy for almost a century), which were painted in the early 20C by French artist Charles Hoffbauer.
