Jamestown Settlement

Recommended
This state-run facility re-creates the life of both Native Americans and English colonists in early 17C. Visits begin at the exhibition galleries, where the rise of the Age of Exploration is discussed, along with the early efforts at colonization and the culture of the coastal Powhatan Indians. A 15min documentary, Jamestown: The Beginning, traces one colonist's memory of the founding of the colony. A palisaded reproduction of James Fort surrounds the kind of simple thatch-roofed structures that housed the colonists in the early years.
