The capital of Cape Verde can be hard to get to grips with, due to its rather anarchic urban planning and congested thoroughfares. But the Platô quarter, which is the city centre, has plenty of charm. It is the hub of public buildings, cafés and music halls, shops and some fine buildings, e.g. on the Plaza Albuquerque. It's mainly worth visiting to soak up its colours and its buzz. Don't miss the charming flea market in Sucupira to get a real feel for the place.
