El-Qasr
The Essential
Recommended
For safety reasons, tourists are strongly advised to avoid this region. The charm of this extremely photogenic old village near the Dakhla Oasis lies in its mudbrick houses, oil press, grinding wheel and Nasr el-Din Mosque, secreted in the little covered passageways. A sleepy village that came to be neglected over time, El-Qasr is rediscovering a little of the bustle it enjoyed in the Middle Ages, when traders' caravans stopped over in the Badoura district. That is also where the potters who produce segas (traditional oval jugs) came to settle.
