Safi
The Essential
Interesting
Although Safi lives mainly from phosphate exports, its uninviting port facilities are not exactly a drawing card, contrary to potters' hill, north of the city centre, where you can watch the production of handmade pottery (also for sale). On either side, the Kechla bastion, built by the Portuguese in the 16C, houses the National Ceramics Museum, while the Sea Castle (Qsar el-Bahr) defies the ocean's waves. Between the two, you can visit the medina and the Safi Museum devoted to folk arts and traditions.
