The Essential
Highly recommended
Rabat, a modern, verdant and attractive capital, is also a showcase for the bold architectural ambitions of the 1930-1950s: go down the majestic Avenue Mohammed V if you need convincing. Next, lose yourself in the medina, whose oldest buildings date back to the 12C. The city, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2012, has not rested on its laurels. Since the 2010s it has been given a new lease of life, with old bourgeois houses being regenerated into fabulous riads, and a host of rehabilitation projects are coming to life.
